The "Grúpa Cheoil" or Trad Group
The "Grúpaí Cheoil" are essentially all our musicians playing together in a group, split into their respective levels of experience. Their classes are on a Wednesday evening.
The music or performance groups are essential in bringing together the learners of traditional Irish music and enhancing their musical experience in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Participants always enjoy these classes and look forward to them and also to performing together elsewhere whether it is at another branch, a slow session, the Fleadh, the Lucan Festival, the library or at a friends house.
Their highlight of the year is always the Lucan Festival, where they play in the grounds of Lucan House on the Saturday and perform on stage on the Sunday.
The Grúpa Cheoil has also entered the Dublin Fleadh. Competition is not the main focus of the groups.
We encourage all learners of traditional Irish music to play in a group. It is not necessary to take classes in the branch to join either Céilí Band or the Trad group. If you can't make the class on the Wednesday evening we also have "Slow Sessions" regulary, usually in Lucan Sarsfields GAA Club on a Sunday afterrnoon.
